"Services That's Distinctive  -- Experience The Difference"

God saw that the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. On April 23, 2011 God went by Woodland Moore Center and gave our loved one the best birthday gift he could receive. He took him on home to glory.

Joseph Lee Brooks was born on April 23, 1942 In Cumberland County. He was the son of the late William Edward Brook, Sr. and Judy Reed Brooks.

He attended Cumberland County Public Schools. Later he moved to New Jersey at an early age for a number of years. Doing that time he was employed by Harmstran and Sons for several years.

Later he returned back to Cumberland, VA to live, that’s when he met his sweet, lovely wife, Mary Jane Brooks of 43 years who preceded him in death. He had 2 brothers who also proceeded him in death, William Edward Brooks, Jr., and George Henry Brooks; 1 nephew Francisco Delvalle, Jr.

He was employed by Womack Farm for over 20 years and Forkland Farm for over 19 years.

He accepted Christ the same time with his 2 nephews and joined Midway Baptist Church. He was a hard worker and a fun person to be around. When he wasn’t working he loved driving his pick-up truck and smoked his pipe.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter Wilma Word (Giles Word, Jr.), two grandchildren, Darnell Word and Lakisha Word all of Cumberland, VA, 2 great-grandchildren, Keandra Word and Jakobe Word, both of Farmville, VA, 2 sisters, one which was very devoted, Lou Brooks, Cumberland, VA and Gertrude Rivera (Teofilo Rivera) Vineland, NJ, 1 devoted brother, Richard Brooks, Sr (Minnie Brooks), Cumberland, VA; 4 sister-in-laws, Eliza Osborne (Russell Osborne), Richmond, VA, Thelma Miles (Robert Miles) Buckingham, VA, Deloris Patterson (Tommy Patterson) Cumberland, VA, and Georgia Miles, Richmond, VA. 4 brother-in-laws, 1 who was very devoted, Samuel Randolph, Cumberland, VA, Charlie Randolph, Cumberland VA, Ulysses Randolph (Gertrude Randolph), Cumberland, VA, McKinley Randolph, Jr.(Elizabeth Randolph) Cumberland, VA; 2 nephews, 1 who was very devoted, James Blanton, Richmond, VA, Richard Brooks, Jr. (Toni Brooks), Maryland; 6 nieces, who was very devoted, Antoinette Brooks, Cumberland, VA, Tyneisha Brooks & Catrice Jackson (Frankie Jackson) all of Cumberland, VA, Mary Blanton, Lisa Blanton, Dorothy Garvin (Sidney Garvin) all of New Jersey; 11 great nieces, 1 which of special to him, T’Keyah Brooks, Virginia Beach, VA; 9 great-nephews, 2 uncles, David Brooks, New Jersey and Reverend Richard Reed, Sr. (Edna Reed) Long Branch, NJ; 3 aunts, Betty Brooks, Farmville, VA, Pauline Whitaker, Cumberland, VA, Elizabeth Brooks, Penne Grove, NJ, and Shirley Lee, California.
